Hornets Extra: 2014-15 Charlotte Hornets season schedule officially released

For many of us NBA fans, it's like an early Christmas, as we officially got our first look at the 2014-15 NBA regular season schedule, and among the handful of teams that released their season schedules, the Charlotte Hornets unveiled it's schedule for the 2014-15 season, it's first since 2002, and they will open up the season on Wednesday, October 29th at "The Hive" against the Milwaukee Bucks in one of the biggest nights in Charlotte and Carolina sports history as the Hornets officially make their return to the NBA.

Two nights later, Charlotte will take on the Memphis Grizzlies in their second game of the season, before they travel up to New York to face the Knicks on November 2nd for the first of 22 back-to-back games this season.

Charlotte will have a lot of marquee games on this year's schedule including LeBron James making his return to Charlotte in a Cavalier uniform on January 2nd, when Cleveland comes to town to face the Hornets in his lone visit of the year.  Kevin Durant will bring the Oklahoma City Thunder to town on February 21st, while Kobe Bryant will make a late-season visit to Charlotte on March 3rd, as the Hornets will welcome in the Los Angeles Lakers to "The Hive.  Another key element of this year's Hornets schedule is that the Hornets will be making 2 appearances on ESPN this season, with the first appearance on April 8th, 2015 against the Toronto Raptors at 7:00 p.m., while they'll wrap up the season against the Raptors, this time in Toronto on April 15th.  

Not to mention that Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh will bring the defending Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat to town for games on November 5th and again on January 21st, and the defending NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs will make their lone trip to Charlotte on January 14th.

Schedule Breakdown:

  • Charlotte will have 22 back-to-back games this season.
  • The fewest amount of home games the Hornets will have this season will be only 4 in February and 4 in April.
  • 4 of the Hornets first 6 games of the season will be at Time Warner Cable Arena
  • Charlotte will have 19 games on Wednesdays, followed by 17 on Fridays, and 15 on Saturdays, while their home schedule breakdown consists of 13 on Wednesday nights, 9 on Saturdays and seven on Friday.
In addition to the release of the schedule, the team announced that all Hornets games will be televised on SportSouth once again this season with the familiar faces of Steve Martin, Dell Curry and Stephanie Ready returning to bring all the action of the Hornets first season in Charlotte since 2002, with each game broadcast beginning and ending with "Hornets Live".
